'What I want more than anything else' - WIGAN Launch Event @ Wigan S.T.E.A.M | Wigan | GB

OFFICIAL LAUNCH
Wigan S.T.E.A.M, 4A Library Street, Wigan WN1 1NU
FREE, booking required

Networked Narrative is delighted to invite you to the Wigan launch of What I want more than anything else a series of new artworks by Mark Titchner that explore young people’s responses to the question “what is it that you want more than anything else?”

This public art project has involved young individuals aged 13-25 from across Burnley, Wigan and Hull, working with the artist to make their thoughts and opinions visible in public spaces. Hull Central library was the first to launch in March and now Wigan S.T.E.A.M will celebrate the second part of the project with new artworks specifically developed for Wigan and Leigh.

Varying in size and form, new artworks will represent the voices of young people from Wigan – three females and four males, aged 12-17. Using their handwritten responses to the question, the artworks consist of large-scale banners, flags, library screensavers, window vinyls, screen-based works and a mural, exhibited in various locations across Wigan & Leigh, including the Wigan Grand Arcade, Wigan S.T.E.A.M, Wigan Central Library, Wigan’s Old Market Hall, The Turnpike, WigLe Dance and Leigh Sports Village.

For our celebrations come down to Wigan S.T.E.A.M for some light bites, refreshments and a chance to meet everyone involved in the project.

We’ll be joined by:

– up-and-coming musicians: Jack Connah (piano) & Chelsea Hern (vocals); Kyle Martindale (guitar) & Emily Boylan (vocals) and Kyle Martindale (guitar) from Wigan & Leigh College

– the artist, Mark Titchner and young people: Bethan, Kyle, Olivia, Ryan, Saxon, Sophie and Thomas

– the winner of the ‘text painting’ competition & our judges

– WigLe Dance, where three members will perform their answer to the question, “What is it that you want more than anything else?” through movement.

To accompany What I want more than anything else in Wigan, a programme of events is available on fact.co.uk/networked-narrative
