Getting techy in the library!

Q. What do you get when you put 20 librarians in a room with miles of conductive thread, a heap of felt and a box of LEDS?

A. An entire forest of sparkling christmas trees, a dozen light-up poppies, a herd of flashing reindeers and a whole lot of fun!

This is exactly what happened when Lizzie and Hayley arrived at Manchester Central Library to deliver creative technology workshops for library staff from across the north west. Their brief was to equip library staff with the skills they need to run creative tech workshops back in their home libraries.

Our e-textile workshop was just the thing – most libraries have at least one knitt-er and natter-er on the staff and this was the perfect opportunity to infuse those skills with a hefty dose of tech! Suffice to say it was a fantastic afternoon, even the most reluctant technophobe made a LED circuit form basic materials and learned how to embed their new skills into lots of different scenarios.

All we’re waiting for now is a picture from the first e-textile inspired Knit and natter group!
